São Paulo Brazil.

Monday was a very busy day with the disembarkation from the Zaandam, a bus ride from Valparaiso  to Santiago Chile then flight to São Paulo, Brazil.

Valparaiso port early in the morning.

I do wish I could speak Spanish!!  Finally found the security check point after waiting in the wrong line to get my boarding pass. The agent told me in Spanish to go to gate 18 and find the "mistral". Not knowing what was a "mistral" I followed the signs and some nice Australians and found myself in the executive lounge for frequent flyers. In the mistral is lots of food and drink. Very nice way to spend 2 hours in an airport in a foreign country!

Finally we arrived at the Ibis Hotel on the Avenue Paulista in the very heart of São Paulo. Here is dear Martha, her mother Vera and Sally Brown as we were checking in at the hotel.

This is the church  and school just across the avenue. São Paulo is a very very busy city with over 7 million people in the city. Portuguese word is muito movimentado - very busy!!

The traffic is totally crazy here. There are no lanes so cars are everywhere and moter bikes weaving around the cars and trucks. Oh my gosh!  Crazy!!  To try to reduce the cars on the streets during rush hours cars with certain license plate numbers are not allowed to drive in the morning until 9 am and then again between 5 and 8 at night. Clever idea but there is still far too much traffic in the city.   This is definitely a city that I would NEVER want to drive in.

Tuesday we stayed in São Paulo to see the sights. And eat some more!
